Located in Wynyard Woodland Park the Planetarium and Observatory provide a wonderful experience for viewing and learning about stars, planets and space.
Public star shows at the Planetarium usually take place on the first and third Friday of each month, with some exceptions (Don’t come in cloud, fog, mist etc.). They also hold a variety of public observing sessions and other atronomy based events throughout the year.
The Observatory boasts an 8-inch refractor. In 2001 they added a 19-inch reflector, which is also believed to be the largest working telescope of its kind in the north of England. Each year, from September through the winter months until the end of April, the observatory is open to the public – call to confirm opening days.
